There is an option to bring your own 4WD vehicle as a Tag Along or join in one of our vehicles as you drive through the desert and camp under the stars in this once off expedition led by our experienced & knowledgeable guides.

Tour Cost Includes:
• Lead vehicles providing full commentary – all tour escorts have many years experience leading 4WD expeditions through remote conditions.
• All meals as per itinerary: B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner including cook/host.
• All camping fees and accommodation where indicated.
• Camping & equipment (tent & mattress) for those in Lead vehicles

Tour cost does not include:
• Flight to Adelaide if a passenger in our vehicle.
• Items of personal nature eg laundry/phone and any optional extras/trips listed in the itinerary.
• Beverages and meals not indicated in the itinerary.
• All passengers to supply a sleeping bag, pillow, eating utensils, tea towel, torch & batteries.
• Passengers in Tag Along vehicles to provide their own camping equipment (tent etc).

DAY 1: Sun 15 Aug FLY TO ADELAIDE – FLINDERS RANGES T (-) T (D)
Board your early morning flight into Adelaide (own expense - latest arrival 9:30am) and board your 4WD expedition heading north through the foothills and western edge of the Flinders Ranges (Tag-Along vehicles join us enroute today). Settle into the campground and enjoy a tour briefing before dinner at the local hotel this evening (own expense). Overnight: Hawker or similar • □

DAYS 2&3: Mon 16 & Tue 17 Aug HAWKER – OODNADATTA TRACK T (BLD)
Enter the outback at Marree – the junction of the Birdsville and Oodnadatta Tracks. Follow the olde Ghan railway passing Coward Springs and William Creek on the edge of Lake Eyre. Stop off at Oodnadatta – a rail town on the original Ghan railway. Overnight: Bush Camp x 2    •

DAY 4: Wed 18 Aug DALHOUSIE SPRINGS – MT DARE T (BLD)
Travel further through various cattle stations and visit Pedirka Ruins on the olde line before walking around Dalhousie Station ruins then take a refreshing dip in the warm thermal pool of Dalhousie Springs.  End the day at Old Mt Dare homestead campground. Overnight:  Mt Dare Campground   •  □

DAYS 5&6: Thu 19 & Fri 20 Aug STATION – SIMPSON DESERT CROSSING T (BLD)
Travel through cattle stations to Old Andado Homestead – an original property now open to see items of a bygone era.  Later on head onto and join Cecil Madigan’s route, the first man to traverse the desert with camels.  The Simpson is considered a great adventure crossing parallel sand dunes that run for hundreds of kilometres.  There will be adequate time to explore the desert and negotiate sand dunes.  Salt lakes with hard, smooth clay surfaces and others with thin white salt crusts will also be encountered.  Also keep an eye out for camels and wild brumbies. DAY 7: Sat 21 Aug SIMPSON DESERT – OLD ANNANDALE STATION T (BLD)
Visit the old abandoned cattle station in its picturesque setting then join the French Line crossing more sand dunes.  Camp tonight in the Simpson for the final time. Overnight:  Bush Camp      •  □

DAY 8: Sun 22 Aug INTO BIRDSVILLE T (B)
Leaving the Simpson Desert National Park prepare to try to cross ‘Big Red’, the biggest sand dune of them all – 90 metres of loose red sand to climb to the summit.  Enter civilisation once again in Birdsville to learn about its history as a border post during the heyday of the Birdsville Track as a stock droving route.  See the famous racetrack and the Burke & Wills camp tree on the Diamantina River plus the Inland Mission Hospital.  Enjoy dinner tonight in the famous pub (own expense) Overnight:  Birdsville    •  □

DAY 9: Mon 23 Aug BIRDSVILLE – CORDILLO DOWNS – COOPERS CREEK T (BLD)
Today head east out of Birdsville passing through Sturts Stony Desert and see the historic woolshed on Cordillo Downs Station.  Take the side track this afternoon through the picturesque breakaway country and camp tonight near the historic site of the Burke & Wills camp on Coopers Creek. Overnight:  Bush Camp      •

DAY 10: Tue 24 Aug INNAMINCKA – BURKE & WILLS T (BLD)
A leisurely day with a short drive out to see the Burke & Wills camp and Dig Tree on Coopers Creek.  Bear witness to the ordeal of these elderly explorers in this remote part of the outback.  Follow the track into Innamincka and see the gravesites of Wills and King plus other historic sites in relation to this ill-fated expedition.  Free time to relax later in the day. DAY 11: Wed 25 Aug INNAMINCKA – CAMERON’S CORNER – TIBOOBURRA T (BLD)
Follow the Strzelecki Track, part of the epic droving journey of Captain Starlight, then once again marvel at the beauty of the large and vast red sand dunes passing through Cameron’s Corner – the junction of South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales.  End the day in Tibooburra and time to stroll to the local hotel to see the murals on the walls of the “Brushmen of the Bush”. Overnight:  Tibooburra    •  □

DAY 12: Thu 26 Aug TIBOOBURRA – BROKEN HILL – MENINDEE LAKES T (B)
Head south for the oldest mining town in Australia, Broken Hill.  Travel out to the Menindee Lakes System and stop off at Copi Hollow with time for a swim in the water playground of the residents of Broken Hill.  Follow the Darling River to camp at Pooncarie and dine out in the pub tonight (own expense). Overnight:  Pooncarie    •  □

DAY 13: Fri 27 Aug POONCARIE – MILDURA – MELBOURNE – GEELONG (B)
Follow the Darling River down through attractive tree belts and undulating countryside to Wentworth and Mildura.  Continue travelling to Melbourne arriving at approximately 6:00pm, so ending a memorable trip to one of our most isolated natural wonders.
