Join us on an exceptional expedition where we discover the lifestyles and traditions of some of Namibia’s oldest cultural groups. This 3 day cultural and community based safari is designed to give you an in-depth look into the lives of the San and Batswana tribes, allowing you to spend time with them as we witness their daily lives and activities. Experience the San Cultures, Batswana Dances and Wildlife .

Vehicle Used:

  • 1-4 guests: Toyota Quantum /Landcruiser with a purpose built trailer.
  • 5-10 guests: Toyota Dyna truck (a modified safari vehicle).

No Single Supplement, throughout the duration of the tour you will be required to share with another traveller of the same gender

Day 1: Okambara En-route to Gobabis (Accommodation)
We will collect your from your Windhoek accommodation at 06.30am. We then drive to a private reserve some 130km from the city to arrive at Okambara Lodge before 9.00 am. After a welcome coffee we leave on a game drive where you have the opportunity of seeing elephant, white rhino, giraffe and a variety of antelope whilst enjoying the breath-taking scenery and landscape of the region. We return for lunch at the lodge. After our activity at Okambara we continue to Gobabis overnight at Uakii Eco-Guesthouse, a guesthouse own & run by a local entrepreneur. Meals: Lunch & Dinner included. Please arrange early breakfast at your pre-tour accommodation at start of day.

Day 2 : Kalahari San Private Bush Camp (Camping)
After breakfast we start with an educational township tour of Gobabis, we learn more about the migration of rural people to urban towns, hoping to find jobs and the harsh conditions they end up living in. We will then continue to the Batswana settlement while observing the changing environment of the Kalahari along the road. A short stopover will be made in Batswana settlement where a local dancing group will be the host showing us few dancing skills and hearing of great voices of this community. Here, you can witness the life of the Batswana communities. There is the opportunity to experience an exceptional Batswana traditional dance, combining music, drama and their natural dancing rhythm. The village also has local shops, schools and a clinic. After this wonderful experience we continue our journey back toward Gobabis en-route to our Bush Camp where guests will be camping for the night. Please note that the camping is very basic and the camp is a bush camp and will have a long drop toilet and bush shower. On arrival we meet our host family at our bush-camp and after the introduction; we start with the following activities: The San family will also teach the guests to make their own bow and arrow as well as ostrich egg pearls and your own jewelry the old San ways. The activities for afternoon will be singing, dancing, playing games, shoot a bow, throw a spear, lighting a fire, making ropes, snares and if lucky watch the traditional doctor healing a patient. Evening singing, dancing around the camp fire and storytelling at night and then after dinner, guests have the chance to sit together with a hunter/healer at the camp fire. They will tell you traditional stories of the Kalahari San. Lunch at own cost in Gobabis and Breakfast and dinner included

Day 3 : Return to Windhoek
After breakfast guest can go on a morning bush walk with a small clan of the San family who will teach us their hunting skills such as tracking, wind directions, stalking and finding underground water roots. The San family will also teach us about how they gather bush food and other edible plants, where to look for them and how they are used. After that wonderful bush walk cultural experience we will see goodbye to our host to continue our journey back to the capital where guests will be dropped off at their accommodation/International Airport for evening departures. Meals: Breakfast light lunch, ONLY. Expected arrival time in Windhoek will be +/- 15h00 hours.

TOUR LOCATION

Please Note: The itinerary above may not run in the exact order of the above and some activities might vary slightly, depending on the time of year and what may be happening at some of the villages. NB: These communities are making their own crafts right there and we humbly request for your support in this regard. Many clients expressed a wish to know before-hand that they can support the communities by buying crafts The maximum group size is 8 - 12 people, no minimum. The vehicle will depend on the size of the group but mostly we use a VW micro minibus/combi or VW Amarok. For groups of guests larger than eight we would use a Toyota Dyna vehicle. Unless otherwise specified, all safaris will be conducted in English. Clients are limited to one soft, barrel type bag per person with maximum weight of 15kg, one medium sized hand luggage bag, one medium sized camera bag and a sleeping bag. We suggest a sleeping bag range of “3 – 4 season”. Sleeping bags can be hired by prior arrangement for a cost of N$: 50.00 per 3 day trip. When selecting your clothing please be aware that Namibian summer temperatures (December - March) can reach 45*C and winter temperatures (June - September) can be as low as -5*C. The rainy season is between December and April. All evening meals on camping safaris (unless stipulated) are cooked on an open fire. Salads and fresh vegetables will be served daily where readily available. Fresh fruit will also be supplied when possible. We cater for vegetarians, but please notify us prior to departure. Airport transfers and pre-and-post safari accommodation can be arranged on request. It is customary in Namibia to tip 10% at restaurants. Your guide and assistant can be tipped at your own discretion, but we ask that the guide be tipped separately from your assistant.
